Welcome to Bays Precinct interactive community forum

With a harbourside location just two kilometres from the CBD, Bays Precinct is an important piece of Sydney’s harbour foreshore.
The NSW Government recognises that Bays Precinct is important to both the local community and to wider Sydney. Future planning for the precinct therefore needs to consider local needs, as well as the protection of Sydney’s maritime economy and the strengthening of Sydney’s role as a global city.
This consultation is the first stage of a long term planning process that will provide the framework for the future of Bays Precinct. The aim is to gather information and ideas which will be used to develop a set of draft principles to guide future planning in the area.
We encourage you to participate in these forums to share your thoughts on Bays Precinct.

Community Reference Group's draft planning principles

As part of the Bays Precinct community consultation, the Minister for Planning established a Community Reference Group to provide feedback about community needs and aspirations for Bays Precinct. The group produced two sets of draft planning principles to help inform future planning for the area. Copies of these documents can be found in the 'Community Reference Group' folder in the Library section of this website.

Thank you for your ideas and information

Thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas and information for Stage 1 of the Bays Precinct consultation. Over the coming months this information will be collated to form a set of draft planning principles for Stage 2 which will begin in early 2010. Keep checking back for updates.

Stage 1 drawing to a close – last days remain to have your say

With the first stage of the Bays Precinct consultation process coming soon to an end, all of the forums on the site will close on Wednesday 25 November 2009. That means you only have a few days left to have your say on the future of this important part of Sydney Harbour.

New forum – see what other Sydneysiders have suggested.

As this phase of the Bays Precinct consultation draws to a close, we have posted three concepts, submitted by community members, as a sample of some of the many ideas that have been brought forward by Sydneysiders during the past few months.

One forum closes and three others remain

The White Bay Power Station forum closed today. Many interesting ideas were put forward for the future use of this building and you can view them in the archived forums folder in the library section of this website.

The cruise passenger terminal forum has been extended by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority so that you can continue to have your say on this important issue. A location for the terminal needs to be found west of the Harbour Bridge and we want your ideas on where it should go.

Don’t forget the Traffic and Transport forum is still open for comment, as is the newly released forum, Reconciling Local and State Needs.

New photos of Bays Precinct have been uploaded to the photo gallery. Taken by Sydney University Women’s Rowing Club, the photos show some of the water-based activities that take place in the precinct and highlight the beauty of the area.

A new forum on the subject of traffic and transport has now been launched. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas on what traffic and transport infrastructure you think Bays Precinct needs in the long term. So please take this opportunity to have your say.

Extension of forums

Have you had your say about White Bay Power Station and the Cruise Passenger Terminal at Bays Precinct? If not, the two forums have been extended to 24 August 2009. New forums will also be released in the coming weeks based on feedback to date, so keep logging in to have your say about Bays Precinct. Update on Bays Precinct forums

Bays Precinct forums 'Bays Precinct and Sydney' and 'Using Bays Precinct' have now closed. You can continue to have your say on the current forums 'White Bay Power Station' and 'Cruise Passenger Terminal,' which will remain open until 10 August 2009. After this time new forums will be released based on your feedback.
