ok
Success!

I completely agree with you. NO more high density housing!, please! As a long term resident of the Balmain peninsula, I've watched the development of this area over many years. It's a wonder the whole peninsula hasn't sunk into the harbour with the sheer numbers of people and cars using this piece of land daily. WHAT WE DESPERATELY NEED is INFRASTRUCTURE and facilities for the dense population already living here, not more people! We have one tiny Woolworths to service everyone. And those of us not brave enough to face the shopping trolley and car park rage there, get in our petrol-guzzling, polluting, climate-changing cars and head to Broadway and Leichhardt to do our shopping. It's crazy!

We need some competition for Woolworths Balmain whose prices are higher than other Woolies around Australia, because it has a captive audience.............Coles maybe or BiLo. Why not a shopping centre with shuttle buses travelling around the peninsula. I think the old Power Station and its surrounding area should be developed into a shopping centre with NRMA, Medicare and other services along with a Transit Centre, with a train going over the Anzac Bridge to the city, or one hooked up with the proposed metro. This precinct is one of the few areas left in the inner-city where a big shopping centre/transit hub could be built without having to destroy a heritage area (It could be built within and without the walls of the power station.) or upsetting residents by reclaiming their properties or destroying the amenity of their properties.............because there is no one living there to upset at the moment. There would also need to be some major road infrastructure built in and out of the area to take the pressure of Robert Street and other Balmain/Rozelle streets.

As for the rest of the area, let's dream, shall we? ....parkland, playgrounds, theatres, ferry jetty, skateboard park for the kids, somewhere for our teenagers to gather and enjoy themselves without being frowned at by grown-ups.

I have lots more ideas, but that's enough for now......I look forward to reading everyone else's responses.

"}
