This consultation has concluded.
As part of the Bays Precinct consultation, a location for a cruise passenger terminal west of the Harbour Bridge needs to be decided. With a growing cruise ship industry, Sydney needs a terminal facility west of the Harbour Bridge to remain competitive in the global market. The NSW Government has announced that this facility will not be located at Barangaroo in the long term. A Passenger Cruise Terminal Steering Committee has also been established by the NSW Government to help decide the permanent location of the terminal. Background information about the cruise industry and its importance to Sydney's economy has been placed in the library section of this website.

I am in full support of the White Bay area remaining largely for use as a working harbour. This is the charcter and heritage of the area.
A cruise terminal is a good option for the area as its impact would only be during the daytime, not creating noise and traffic at night. Embarkation and disembarkation occur over extended periods of time so will not cause traffic congestion. We may also get some nice shops and cafes if the development is done well.
Its use as a convention centre would also be good for the area.
I believe Balmain residents should grab this option as soon as possible - far preferrable to yet more residential areas - we have enough of those already. We particularly don't want any high rise appartments - no Jacksons Landings please!
Some park land in the area would also be valuable - let us have good access to some harbourside public space.
