Launch of the new online forum – Bays Precinct: the next 25 years and beyond

The online forum is now open and we invite you to have your say about the future of the Bays Precinct.

Please take the opportunity to read through the Government Architect’s Needs Analysis and the draft Vision for the area and let us know your views on the future of the Bays Precinct.

You can find it by choosing the "Online Forum" tab above or by clicking here.

We are interested in hearing your views on the key issues and priorities for the area.

The forum will run until the end of June 2012.

Following the last round of community consultation, along with significant investigation and surveying, the Government Architect developed a Needs Analysis that focuses on the future needs of the Bays Precinct.

Join us for Community Workshops to discuss the Bays Precinct: the next 25 years and beyond.

You are invited to attend a series of workshops to be briefed on the Taskforce’s work to date and to contribute to the Taskforce’s report back to the NSW Government, throughout May and early June 2012.

The report is to be submitted by 30 July.

The workshops will be conducted in three rounds; you can choose to attend one, two or all three of the rounds.

1. The overview forums will include background presentations and small workshops. (Choose one of the following)

Wednesday, 16 May, 6–9pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)
Saturday, 19 May, 2–5pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)
Wednesday, 23 May, 6–9pm in Glebe (St Scholastica's College, Avenue Road)

2. The working forums will build on the background and include community workshops and dialogue. (Choose one of the following)

Saturday, 2 June 2–5pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)
Monday, 4 June, 6–9pm in Glebe (St Scholastica's College, Avenue Road)
Wednesday, 6 June, 6–9pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)

3. The summary workshops will report back on community input. (Choose one of the following)

Wednesday, 20 June, 6–9pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)
Thursday, 21 June, 6–9pm in Glebe (St Scholastica's College, Avenue Road)
Saturday, 23 June, 2–5pm in Balmain (Sydney Secondary College, Terry Street)

Stage 2 on the launch pad

As part of the Minister's commitment to consult with the community prior to key decision making about the future of Bays Precinct, Stage 2 Consultation - including website forums - will soon be launched.

Stage 2 has been designed to report back on the first stage and to further explore the issues, ideas, opportunities and constraints that have emerged about the precinct.

This new stage seeks to establish stakeholder priorities and finalise a vision that will be useful for the Minister in future decision-making.

A website forum will soon open, so please watch this space in the coming weeks, so you can have your say about the future of the Bays Precinct.

New photos of Bays Precinct have been uploaded to the photo gallery. Taken by Sydney University Women’s Rowing Club, the photos show some of the water-based activities that take place in the precinct and highlight the beauty of the area.

Extension of forums

Have you had your say about White Bay Power Station and the Cruise Passenger Terminal at Bays Precinct? If not, the two forums have been extended to 24 August 2009. New forums will also be released in the coming weeks based on feedback to date, so keep logging in to have your say about Bays Precinct. You can also email us at baysprecinct@shfa.nsw.gov.au with your ideas and comments.

Update on Bays Precinct forums

Bays Precinct forums 'Bays Precinct and Sydney' and 'Using Bays Precinct' have now closed. You can continue to have your say on the current forums 'White Bay Power Station' and 'Cruise Passenger Terminal,' which will remain open until 10 August 2009. After this time new forums will be released based on your feedback.

New Bays Precinct video released

A new 3D animated flyover of Bays Precinct has been loaded to the Video section of this website. The flyover provides you with more information about the precinct and how it is being used in the short to medium term. Please take the time to view the video and continue to log onto the forums to have your say.

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority has launched the first two interactive online forums for Bays Precinct. The forums, 'Bays Precinct and Sydney' and 'Using Bays Precinct' have been posted to allow you to have your say on the future of Bays Precinct. You can share your ideas and information on these two forums until 20 July 2009.

Additional forums will be launched throughout the four month consultation period based on the feedback we receive.

Minister for Planning announces Bays Precinct consultation

Planning Minister, Kristina Keneally has called on the people of Sydney to imagine a new future for Bays Precinct. In her announcement, the Minister said 'Bays Precinct, as a whole, includes 80 hectares of Government land, including five kilometres of harbour foreshore, located just two kilometres from the CBD. Through the consultation process, Sydneysiders will help decide a mix of working harbour, parkland, commercial or residential development, entertainment, art or sporting facilities for Bays Precinct.'
