I am in full support of the White Bay area remaining largely for use as a working harbour. This is the charcter and heritage of the area.
A cruise terminal is a good option for the area as its impact would only be during the daytime, not creating noise and traffic at night. Embarkation and disembarkation occur over extended periods of time so will not cause traffic congestion. We may also get some nice shops and cafes if the development is done well.
Its use as a convention centre would also be good for the area.
I believe Balmain residents should grab this option as soon as possible - far preferrable to yet more residential areas - we have enough of those already. We particularly don't want any high rise appartments - no Jacksons Landings please!
Some park land in the area would also be valuable - let us have good access to some harbourside public space.

Redevelopment of the White Bay section of the Bays Precinct with a focus on maritime tourism surrounded by parkland will provide an attractive entry point for visitors to Sydney and provide economic and transport benefits for the local community.

White Bay is already designated as the site of a temporary cruise terminal. Due to size the largest cruise ships can not go under the Sydney Harbour Bridge but at least one ship a week will use this facility. Each ship carries several hundred passengers.

Retention of the Bays Precinct as working wharves in the Bays Precinct benefits tourism through the provision of a variety of services including refuelling, minor repairs and landing facilities.

The area can also act as a ferry point for tourists transiting Sydney for the northern and eastern beaches, along with access to harbour tours.

The provision of transport options can also bring more tourists to Balmain, Glebe, Leichhardt and adjoining suburbs.

The passenger service could be enhanced with a small extension of the light rail to this terminal which would also increase transport option for local residents.

The working harbour concept along White Bay is very important as all of the necessary infrastructure is already in place. It is important to consider that you need the public access areas down towards the Power Station and Glebe Island as they provide fast efficent access for users.

If you have the access at the more remote locations it will impact on traffic along past the residences. This will also be a deterrent to people using the area.

Working harbour is very compatible with the existing rowing that takes place in the early hours of the morning in White Bay. Generally, working harbour activities do not commence before 7am by which time the rowers are finishing. Rowing needs safe, wash-free, long, straight stretches and the row in and out of White Bay is perfect.

Large ships such as passenger vessels and ships carrying cargo present no issues for rowers.

Good to see Working Harbour, this is a must. Recreational Boating is also part of it, Cruise ships and Boating does work, so let’s get it happening, I support it

I really cannot understand why there has been so much noise made about the White Bay and the Cruise Ship Terminal.

This area was a working harbour long before the few current shall I say NIMBY like residents started beating their chests and yelling at the top of their lungs about the so called inappropriate use of the area. Just what exactly was the area long before they moved in???? IT WAS A LIVING, BREATHING, WORKING HARBOUR.

Having the Cruise Ship Terminal in White Bay will not only breathe some life into this area of the harbour, but will no doubt inject substantial revenue into the local area.

As I said elsewhere on another topic, I liked the car carriers better than cruise boats. But that said, any big boats are better than none. Its very sad to see those empty wharves, though I've noticed small navy and cargo boats are using them more recently. I agree with those who said the terminal will breath some life into the area. Hopefully tourists can be encouraged to go up to Darling St and support local business (where I work – self interest! sorry)
