Working Harbour/ Mixed Use Great suggestion, lets make sure we develop this, and dont just talk about it.
Boating needs facitlies and "Working Harbour/ Mixed Use" is a good outcome

Interesting proposal
- Keeping Glebe Island for maritime use makes most sense - furthest from residential, already set up. Moving Bailey's refuelling to here is also sensible. And yes, starwars is be pleased that this plan allows for domestic boating access here.
- Transport hub near the powerstation with a metro connection makes great sense
- Bit of a cop-out not including much on traffic impacts - having this much commercial real estate could well have a big impact, depending on what types of businesses. No parking mentioned, unless intention is for underground.
- Connecting the commercial areas to Balmain in a low more…

i agree glc but i think the Cruise ship terminal and Baileys belong on WB. This will provide an efficent use of land and provide more space on Glebe Island, perhaps with a connecting walkway, say the Island to the Power Station, as an entry statement?

I think that this proposal gets it partly right.
Yes this area needs to maintain its maritime focus because of the deep water wharf access this “working port” area provides. If this wharf access was to lost to non maritime activities such as open space, walkways, recreational facilities, office space and the likes, it could never be replaced.
Let’s keep this area as a working port as it has been for many decades and stop pandering to the vocal few residents who moved into this industrial working harbour area and have decided that it should be parks, recreational facilities, office space and perhaps a Cafe or two for that Sunday morning coffee and newspaper.
We must remember that this is Sydney Harbour and not some additional land to be landscaped to increase the real estate values of a few Balmain residents who knew that it was a working port area when they purchased, but act outraged if anyone suggests it remain so.

I like this plan a lot.
Not sure how the Metro stop gets funded if it is only surrounded by water and a park. Metro stops need high density development right on top of them to make them work properly. Go to Rozelle Bay or Wentworth Park tram stops in the rush hours if you want to see what happens when rail stops are built surrounded by only parkland and water.
I like the sensitive height proposals and transport corridor/spine towards Balmain East, plus pedestrian links to existing housing without vehicle links. Excellent.
I'm not sure if there is demand to fill all this office space? Surely all office space is planned for the "global arc" from N.Syd/Chatswood/Macquarie Park/Epping? Why would I move a major business office to Balmain instead?
If SOME that office space became residential, then I see developers paying for it, and the Metro stop makes more sense.

I'm sceptical. This firm works for the people behind Sydney City Slipway and have locked in their interests before taking into account the business of anyone else. You can discover this yourself of you look at the Department of Planning website. It has its good points but beware the vested interests.
